About the Role
As a member of our User Experience team, you will push your creative, problem-solving and people skills to the fullest. You will contribute to the design of multiple products, working closely with product managers, development leads and other designers. You will study end-users to understand their problems and return to them later to validate your solutions. You will explore creative breakthrough design concepts and sculpt them into practical, real-world solutions. You will provide interaction specifications and support developers to make sure your work is built to spec. The position is located in San Mateo, CA.

What you will do:
- Study users to deeply understand their SSNiFs (stakeholders, situations, needs leading to the right features)
- Create models that form the theoretical foundation for great solutions: workflow diagrams, flowcharts, storyboards, personas and other models
- Establish a high level vision for the solution
- Collaborate closely with product managers, development leads and other designers
- Create low-fi sketches and wireframes to establish the rough direction
- Create interactive prototypes for user testing
- Test designs with end-users
- Create precise, beautiful, hi-fi mock-ups
- Write thorough design specifications
- Support engineering through the development phase
About your experience:
- Exceptionally strong interaction design background. 5+ years of experience in user interface design for software applications (Web-based applications are relevant, but not Web sites)
- Experience designing consumer or enterprise software, SaaS (on-demand), or transactional web sites (e-commerce, etc.)
- Experience designing for mobile devices: iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android
- Experience and comfort researching users and conducting usability testing
- Technical experience including HTML/CSS coding and some programming
- Your academic background doesn't really matter (you should have at least a bachelor's of something)…
- …but your online portfolio showing advanced interactive product design matters a lot
Required Skills:
- Excellent conceptual and big-picture design skills including: user experience architecture, information architecture
- Natural ability to empathize with differing personas
- The ability to discern the essence of the problem, cut through complex problems and generate clean, obvious-in-retrospect solutions
- Exceptionally strong interaction and information design skills
- Comfort representing abstract concepts visually with workflows, wireflows, site maps, concept diagrams
- An eye for aesthetic design - including layout, typography, color, animation
- Strong familiarity with Web 2.0 design patterns and UI toolkits
- Fluent in a range of design tools
- Strong attention to detail. Capable of meeting the highest standards of quality in workmanship
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. The ability to write clear copy in user interfaces.
- The persuasiveness to sell and uphold designs
- Ability to conduct user research to discern user needs
- Ability to conduct usability testing of designs
- Reliability. Ability to work independently and manage priorities to meet milestones
The following skills are a plus
- Experience designing simple consumer-grade products
- Ability to build medium and high-fidelity prototypes in JavaScript or Flash
- Experience designing mobile products
- Experience designing with accessibility and Section 508 Compliance
- Domain knowledge of talent management & HR software
